Barely a week after barrage of bomb
blasts rocked Jos, the Plateau state
capital, residents of Jos still live in
apprehension and fear even at the
sound of tire burst aside rumors of
impending attacks in parts of Jos
and its environs.
We investigation reveals that many
social events billed to hold on
Children’s day celebrations and
Democracy day had to be cancelled.
Children were asked to stay put at
home for fear of the unknown even
as the arrest of a gun runner at NTA
Jos motor park located at Yakubu
Gowon way on Wednesday this week
while attempting to board a vehicle
to southern part of Kaduna state,
had added to fears and
apprehension in the hearts of
residents of the city who now mount
road blocks at junctions of many
neighborhoods in the Plateau state
capital.
A reliable source that a suspect
arrested in connection with attacks
in Jos has confessed that they were
10 in number sent to carry out bomb
attacks in different parts of the
city, saying people should be on the
watch out for the remaining nine
others still at large.
Meanwhile security in and around
Jos, has been beefed up with
security checks at all check points
within the city centre while at the
state secretariat housing estate,
workers offices on Friday
witnessed serious security checks
on motorists entering the state
secretariat for one transaction or
the other.
Vehicle owners were told to park
their cars far away from the
buildings in the secretariat after
being checked with metal detectors.
It was gathered from various
neighborhoods in Jos city that
youths have mobilized themselves
into vigilante groups monitoring cars
and trucks packed at suspicious
locations by their owners while
most offices and business centers
in the city have barricades at the
entrance of their buildings and
security personnel to monitor
events around their vicinity .
We gathered that people no longer
drop polythene bags by the roads or
throw refuse carelessly as eagle
eyed operatives have taken it upon
themselves to subject such fellows
to barrage of questions.
